I have a dedicated writing computer. Just a little Azulle Byte Plus mini PC I got a few years back. Hardly draws any power, and doesn't even have a fan (which means zero noise, which I appreciate when I'm writing.) But I had an issue where the damn thing wouldn't shut off, and _fast startup_ was the culprit. If you're running a beefy 3D workstation I could see the benefits of that feature. But for me it was just another headache.

Wait I'm confused, does this mean that, if I shutdown my pc, my computer technically stays on, which actually explains it starting up pretty quick. Although, does this mean that, if your pc stays off like, 30 minutes to an hour or more, will it technically be still.. "On", or will it eventually, fully shut down?

What kind of shutdown does Win10 perform, when you open the cmd.exe and type in the command for a timed shutdown? A full shutdown or the fast startup version?

Fast Startup doesn't exist in the early builds of Windows 10. Also, run powercfg -h off from admin cmd.

PSA for those (like me, for whatever reason) who are missing the Hibernate and Fast Startup options in your Power Settings: If your only options are Sleep and Lock, open Windows PowerShell (or Command Prompt) in admin, and just type without the quotations "powercfg /hibernate on" and once it does it you should see the options in that menu. (For Command Prompt, if I recall you need to type "powercfg.exe" instead of just "powercfg".

Thanks you guys this really did the trick. My trusty sabertooth rev2 just would not turn on after a regular shutdown. Only a forceful shutdown by long pressing the power key or by pressing the psu key would make me able to restart my device after the power was restored. As soon as i saw the titel i knew this video will contain my solution. I knew nothing of this feature.

NVMe main drive on 2 different PC's and a SATA SSD on a third, there is no measurable difference between fast startup and the full start after an actual shutdown. Fast Startup is a solution for a problem that hasn't existed since mechanical HDD's went extinct about 10 years ago.

I legit had those blue screens because of fast startup. For some reason, even with brand new components, it kept my pc from being on for more than 20 minutes because of what looked simultaneously like a kernel panic, AND a device driver failure. Thanks for the awesome feature yet again Microsoft.

It does for me, because my motherboard informed me about "fast startup", so I disabled that "feature". I mean, I boot from NVMe SSDs, so a "fast boot" option is kind of moot when it takes all of 10 seconds to begin with. Also, it made my sound crackle. (My mobo has the LED code display; on a normal startup, it displays "A0" for "All Okay".. with "fast boot" enabled, it displays a different code. 62? or something. The manual states it's basically an altered okay boot.)
