I traded a snowmobile for this 1949 Pontiac project that was abandoned years ago, and it's got a stuck motor. We'll see if we can get the motor un seized and get the motor running.

01:50 Pushing Pontiac in the shop
08:01 First attempt to free the motor.
10:39 Day 2
12:28 Attempt two free the motor
19:43 lifting the car and looking at bottom side.
22:30 Attempt three
24:35 Pulling wheels off to look at brakes.
28:11 Attempt 4 to un stick the motor.
40:53 Assembling the motor
47:30 attempting to start the motor will it start?

I had one just like this in 1967. I wanted to put a 389 Pontiac motor in it. Got a rod nock and l sold it for $50. Paid $75 for it 2 years previous. Wanted to label it 49 GTO!!!. Had a straight 8.

Should have annealed the head gasket, you heat up the copper, ideally quench it in vinegar, and good as new. Did it all the time back when....

I Knew it would run. What a wonderful experience to discover a good engine under all those rumors. It's hard to beat the old 6. One of the best engine made. You couldn't hurt them.

Great to see it go from stuck to running! I was half expecting you to run some sand paper between the valves and seats just to give them a little clean up.

"Crude" you say...? Rough as guts I say!! Fortunately the starter motor isn't finding compression. Leav the spray-lube in there overnight...it doesn't work immediately'54 was the best and stri=ogest of all the Pontiacs...intersting bonnet mascot that lit up when lights turned on. Should never have sold mine.

Love your channel, all the content, music & your laid back attitude / approach to your projects, since stumbling on it about a month ago ! I had a '50 Pontiac 4 dr Streamliner many, many years ago, that my great aunt gave me. My dad had.a '49 2 dr sedan he bought new. I also restored a '38 Pontiac 2 dr fastback sedan back in 1975. So the old Tin Indians have a special place in my heart. Always look forward to & enjoy your videos ! Very well done ! Don't change a thing. Thanks for all your efforts & time to share with all of us. You're a Class Act ! Much enjoyed !

Best to use, if you're cheap, is 2/3 cup SYNTHETIC transmissiom fluid, and 1/3 acetone.....it works very well......wd40 is nothing. It is fish oil basically used as a mousture repellant

Don't ruin this car, by putting in a small block, 500hp engine. The charm, is to have it original; hear the whine of the tranny, hum of the original straight 8, etc. Make it stock, and you' ll be happy you did...!!!

Now I don’t have anything bad to say about the CNC penetrating oil but my Dad used to always swear by Marvels Mystery oil ? I used it to winterize my boat motors by squirting a bit into the spark plug holes for long term storage I also kept a old fashioned oil squirt can full of it in my engine compartment and I used it to lubricate linkages and other things when I was in there working or doing maintenance I’m not for or against the Marvels but I do believe it never caused any harm to my motors I did have one motor get electrolysis and that did lock the motors up I believe the Marvels Mystery did seep into what ever and it allowed me to get the engine turning over normally with my starter I suspected other issues with compression and I did not get that motor to start ? I saw the comment of the other guy about using galvanizing roofing paint on your head gasket and that may work ? But I have used Permatex Copper Gasket spray on a Jet Ski Head that was recommended by a group that builds those motors specifically and Professionally for racing for me it’s held for 25 years on a machine that was blowing gaskets previously ? Btw I was not racing or highperformancing the machine as I ran stock configuration

Amazing condition for a 72-year-old. The climate over here in the UK has practically killed off all cars from this era, not until manufacturers started to dip-galvanize the body shell and rust-proof the doors, bonnet and boot, with 10 years guaranteed rust-free, that they lasted a lil longer...10 years! Most cars from the 1970s have gone to Valhalla many brand new cars started rusting away after just 18 months on the driveway! ( Ford Cortina, MGBGT, Mini Metro, Morris Marina, Vauxhall Chevette, Vauxhall Cavalier, Rover SD1, Austin Allegro, Austin Princess) They all had zero rust inhibitors along with poor water drain-off areas. Its a shame and a disgrace. Good look with the 49 Pontiac, looks like a sound project as the overall metal is sound.
